I am Carole Riley, from Sydney, Australia, and I have been writing blogs for a number of years now. I started this blog as a demonstration of blogging for family historians for a workshop, and I've realised that it is a useful place to keep everything together in one place. Please come back often!

About blogs

I think every family historian should start a blog. Even if you don't post very often, you will have something online that can be found through Google by other researchers. You can also make the blog private and invite selected family members.

This blog will discuss the reasons for writing a blog and how to do so. A blog can be hosted for free here at blogger.com or at wordpress.com; both of these sites are improving all the time. Some of these posts have been published elsewhere; some are new. What they all have in common is an interest in publishing family history in easily digestible portions in an accessible format. Get your family interested! Start a blog and tell the stories of your ancestors.

We will also look at how useful the blogs of others can be for family historians. There is a lot of information out there, and much of it is regularly published on blogs.
